CB Joel Matip: 8

Before traversing to the part where we talk pleasantly about his defending, let’s start with his threat on attacking set pieces. It’s fantastic. The glancing header off the crossbar in the second half sent a wry smile to my face in anticipation for future corners, something foreign in recent years for Liverpool fans.

But where he makes his money is in defense and he was fantastic back there. He contributed heavily to Harry Kane’s quiet afternoon and showed fantastic promise for what’s to come when the 25 year old (!!!) gets properly acclimated to the Premier League.

CB Dejan Lovren: 7

Lovren was second best between him and Matip but this partnership is looking scrumptious. He, too, did a job on Kane and wasn’t quite as good in possession as Matip but a good job nonetheless.
