Sadio Mane: FIFA 17 Judgement

Just how good is Sadio Mane in FIFA 17? Does he have a fair rating?

FIFA 17 have given Sadio Mane an overall of 79 – but don’t underestimate this Senegal beast. Mane can be played as a LM, RM, CAM and a ST, making him a versatile threat. At just 24 years old, he also has a high potential of 85. This more than makes up for his lacking overall.

We’re going to break down Mane’s statistics by group, and follow that up with our general verdict on his FIFA double. We’re going to miss out defending and goalkeeping, for the obvious reasons that Mane is pretty awful at both.

Attacking

• 76 Finishing
• 53 Heading Accuracy
• 73 Short Passing
• 66 Volleys

First up, it’s the attacking stats. Finishing of 76 is fine if you ask me, despite his brilliant goal against Arsenal. He’s got room to improve, and he isn’t a recognised prolific finisher. His short passing is respectable, but his heading accuracy is awful.

He also has poor volleys and poor crossing, but I think the rest of his stats make up for what he lacks in these areas. I can’t argue for any higher, other than perhaps some increase to his crossing.

Skill

• 64 Free Kick Accuracy
• 67 Long Passing
• 77 Ball Control

Obviously 84 dribbling is the stand-out stat here. I’d have liked some higher ball control to accompany that, but ah well. His distance passing and free kicks are around where i’d expect them to be.

Movement

• 93 Acceleration
• 91 Sprint Speed
• 88 Agility
• 75 Reactions
• 85 Balance

Easily Mane’s strongest group. Those acceleration and sprint speed stats will be deadly, but agility is more important in my opinion. A precise turn and some nimble movement can beat defenders allowing you to pace away. His balance is also impressive, accompanying some decent reactions.

Power

• 73 Shot Power
• 58 Jumping
• 65 Stamina
• 72 Strength
• 66 Long Shots

Jumping and stamina are really let-downs here. 65 stamina is going to suck when trying to play him during hectic periods of the game. Jumping could also make him more threatening from corners, but his movement makes me feel better. Mane has decent strength for a speedster, and his shot power should help you smash them in.

Mentality

• 77 Positioning

• 71 Penalties
• 74 Composure

A well composed player with good positioning and the ability to take a nice penalty. Aggression and interceptions aren’t too important for a winger or striker, but that low vision could damped his effectiveness at CAM.

Overall opinion

All in all, Sadio Mane has a decent FIFA 17 double. He starts off well, but it’s the fact these stats will improve that makes him exciting. An 85 rated speed-demon like Mane will tear opponents apart. I consider him fairly rated at the moment, but a winter upgrade looks almost certain already.
