Divock Origi

If anyone was hurt the most by a lack of European football, it’s been Divock Origi. It’s ever so difficult to get him the requisite playing time to generate momentum at the current rate of one League Cup game a month plus about eight minutes off the bench in the league.

Origi made huge strides in the Europa League last season for Liverpool, which pushed him into the team in the Premier League before he got hurt. This season the chances haven’t been there.

Conventional wisdom has him behind Sturridge, who’s behind Firmino. The front three of Firmino, Mane and Coutinho has been immaculate this season thus lending Klopp no reason to tinker with it due to the dearth of a fixture congestion. None of them need to be rested when they’ve played just one a week.

To Origi’s credit, he’s played two League Cup games and scored two goals. He’s doing what he can.

Both of those matches came against Championship teams so thus the match against Tottenham will leave a bigger imprint on Klopp’s mind should he be successful.
