Liverpool have an impending depth issue going into the second half of the season and Jurgen Klopp will look to add to his squad in multiple areas with a January transfer.

Jurgen Klopp has Liverpool playing breathtaking attacking football, but the Reds are seemingly one or two tweaked hamstrings away from a crisis of depth.

With Sadio Mané due to head to AFCON in January, the forward line will need additions.

In Klopp’s fluid 4-1-2-3 or 4-3-3, depending on your preferred nomenclature, those three forwards interchange and swap sides constantly.

It’s important for Klopp’s forwards to have a high work rate, pace, and a nose for goal.

The gegenpress will always put these attackers in dangerous positions, but only certain players can fit into the fast-paced system.

For instance, Christian Benteke, a perfectly talented number 9 and a prolific goalscorer, was simply incompatible with Jurgen Klopp’s brand of football.

Benteke’s tendency to stay central, and his lack of game-breaking pace, meant that he was surplus to requirements at Anfield.

James Milner has filled in at left back admirably this season. But, any injury or suspension will see Alberto Moreno come back into the side and I don’t think anyone wants that, so depth is surely needed there.

In defensive midfield Jordan Henderson has had the season of his life, but, once again, adding depth in that area can only benefit Liverpool in the long run.

Henderson can’t play every game of the Premier League season and both cups.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at some options for Klopp and Liverpool in January.
