Liverpool injury updates, some hopeful and some annoying.
Every football club suffers from injuries during a season, but it seems like the the boys in red go down right when their services are really needed. That being said, all of the players below, Grujic, Lovren, and Sturridge are expected to return soon, check out the information below.
It is always nice to receive some encouraging news.
Grujic and Lovren Update
It is being reported by, This Is Anfield, that Grujic may return to training next week, and will be available for the match against Leicester, if needed. He has not been a particularly influential player on the pitch this season, making on two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
In those two appearances Grujic has seen only 30 minutes of action, contributing an 84% pass accuracy rating, and wining just 67% of his duels. That being said, with Liverpool lacking some creativity in the midfield, they can always use more midfield depth.
Next, Dejan Lovren was left in England while Liverpool traveled to Spain for warm weather training. This was due to a knee injury, but it is reported that Lovren is expected to return to training at Melwood next week. Again, likely making him available as well for the February 27th match against Leicester City.
This is an encouraging sign, the Reds continue to need improvement in their defense due to some tough fixtures ahead in 2017. After misses two matches in a row, Lovren’s return will be a boost to Liverpool’s back-line, for sure. He receives a 4.5 out of 5 rating by Squawka.com and has been slightly better than both Joel Matip and James Milner this season in the Premier League.
Though, Lucas Leiva was impressive during the match last weekend against Tottenham. He has since gone down with a muscle injury, more on him below.
Oh No Daniel Sturridge…
While the Reds currently train in Spain, Daniel Sturridge will no longer be with the squad. It is now being reported that Daniel Sturridge has left La Manga, heading back to England. BUT do not worry Reds fans, it is only a virus.
Any injury or illness news regarding Sturridge is a cause for concern. He has a long history of nagging injuries, but we can count our blessings that this time it is not some knock.
Hopefully Sturridge recovers soon, there are ten days until the Reds next match, which should provide plenty of time for Sturridge to mend. He has mostly served as a substitute for Klopp’s squad this season, making on 13 appearences in the Premier League. But is always a threat off the bench to score a late goal.
Sturridge has shown a flash of his vintage glory, particularly in the match against Sunderland. In that match, he scored the first Liverpool goal in the 19th minute, making a quick strike to the goal. Liverpool went on to draw against Sunderland, giving up two goals to Jermain Defoe. Let’s not relive that depression match…
