Left-back has been a sore spot for many Liverpool fans this season. James Milner is not a true left-back, but has done an adequate job at the position. Reports are now out that Jurgen Klopp is targeting Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

The Reds are likely to keep James Milner on the squad next season. He provides leadership, but is more of a winger/midfielder. The Echo reports that Klopp may look to sell Alberto Moreno this summer. Moreno has seen the bench for most of the season, starting in Cup matches and subbing in Premier League fixtures.

The Reds scouts have been busy this Spring, scoping out loads of talent to bring in over the summer transfer window. The latest is that Klopp will heavily pursue Ryan Sessegnon. Klopp is “keen to beat off competition from a host of Premier League clubs to secure his signature.”

Another Defender, Another Dollar

The 16-year-old defender, Sessegnon, has made 21 appearances in the Championship League this season. His value comes in his ability to pass well, create chances, and offer a little attack threat. He has scored 7 goals (5 in the Championship League) across all competitions. There is still some need for development of his defensive skills, but he has made ZERO defensive errors this season. That is a lot more than the Liverpool back-line can say about their mistakes.

"Klopp believes the England under-19 international would be the ideal new recruit to compete with the vice-captain James Milner for the full-back spot…. The youngster has proved a huge hit in the Championship since making his senior debut for Fulham last August. via the Echo"

Competition is always good and it has already been noted that while Milner has been adequate at left-back, he is not an ideal fit. Plus, there is a reason Klopp has kept Moreno on the bench this season. Moreno is simple too inconsistent and lacks the decision-making skills to be a full-time defender in Klopp’s system. This among other reasons is why the Reds will likely sell him off this summer.

But wait, there is a slight catch to the youngster. The Echo notes that Sessegnon pre-agreed to a deal with Fulham before this season. He will likely sign on July 1. If he does sign that means Liverpool will have to pay Fulham a large transfer fee as “opposed to just compensation for his development if he was only a scholar.” At the end of the day if Klopp wants Sessegnon then the Reds will fight to get him, no matter the cost.
