Andrew Robertson looks set to join Liverpool from Hull City in the next few days. He has left the Hull training camp to finalize the deal.

Hull City left back Andrew Robertson has left their training camp ahead of finalizing a move to Liverpool. The club have been in talks with the Scottish international throughout the summer and now look set to agree personal terms with the player.

While there has been speculation of a move for a left back there has been little concrete in the last few weeks. Robertson has consistently appeared in rumors alongside his national teammate Kieran Tierney. Whether or not we were to make move was considered dependent on the move for Virgil van Dijk.

Less than two weeks into preseason and Jurgen Klopp has seen enough from his left back options. Or rather he hasn’t seen enough. James Milner is known and trusted. Alberto Moreno we know has no long-term future at the club as we have listened to numerous offers.

The early view on two returning players has not been encouraging. Joe Gomez is on a slow track to recovery from injury and is a more natural center back and right back despite playing a handful of games at left back at the start of his Liverpool career. Jon Flanagan, who also has first team left back experience, has been underwhelming in training and the early preseason games.

Klopp believes there is not enough cover and competition for Milner, hence the move for Andrew Robertson. Adding a trustworthy left back also allows Milner to play as a midfielder in certain game situations or in an injury crisis.

Fans are cautious as his time at Hull was not particularly impressive. Yet Hull were a poor side who played horrible negative football until Marco Silva arrived. Robertson looked much better as the side were chasing points and he had license to attack more often. This is more like the player they bought from Dundee United. In his time at the Tangerines he made a name through incisive attacking play from deep. That is the player Liverpool are looking to resurrect with this deal.
