Liverpool need to make a signing or two before the deadline and may turn to Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Independant are reporting the availability of Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They list Chelsea and Liverpool as the two strongest suitors. The German side are willing to let their striker go at the right price.

The 28-year-old Gabon international is coming towards the end of his prime and BVB want to cash in before his value declines over the next few seasons. They have Christian Pulisic and Ousmane Dembele as heirs apparent and have resisted moves from Tottenham & Liverpool and Barcelona respectively.

Chelsea are the current favorites as they are actively looking to buy another striker. However their priority is trying to seal deals for two Serie A players; Alex Sandro of Juventus and Andrea Belotti of Torino.

Liverpool are in far greater need of a central defender and a midfielder. Yet with no deals imminent in those area the club may feel the pressure to sign a star to appease the fanbase. Aubameyang has the big name capability (pun intended) to do just that.

With £140 million set aside for the van Dijk and Naby Keita deals available they could turn that into a move for Aubameyang. That would almost certainly put Daniel Sturridge on the trading block.

Liverpool do have some history for this. In 2014 as Liverpool were trying to replace Luis Suarez they made a late window move for Mario Balotelli. Not what Liverpool needed but it was a big move that kept fans happy. At least for a few months.

Any move for Aubameyang would fall into that category. The huge plus for that transfer would be the ability to move Roberto Firmino around and even play him deeper. Opposing teams would have to employ guess-work when predicting who would start and how we will line up. That is a huge tactical plus for Jurgen Klopp to have.
