Liverpool Player Ratings – Defenders

Another Premier League start for the Englishman. He started brightly and put in a fabulous cross for Roberto Firmino to score the opening goal. Got a naive yellow card after getting beaten by a trick. The rest of the game he was imperious. He was stronger quicker and smarter than anything Arsenal threw at him. He won the ball with a brilliant tackle in our box to start the counter attack for Liverpool’s crucial second goal. The best defender on the pitch today.. Right Back. Liverpool. JOE GOMEZ. 8

JOEL MATIP. 7. Matip seems to prefer having Gomez over Alexander-Arnold at right back. The center back’s two best performances have been when he has not have to cover and coach TAA. He was flawless again today. One of those games where he cleverness and positioning do all the work for him. His fitness and form are so important for Liverpool if we are to win anything this season.. Center Back. Liverpool

7. This kind of performance is exactly why Klopp rates him so highly. His silly yellow card aside this was a patient and confident display from the maligned Croatian. None of the errors we saw in the games against Hoffenheim. Ozil barely touched the ball until the second half and much of that was down to how ready Lovren was for the matchup. If we can get these performances on a consistent basis we might be okay this season.. Center Back. Liverpool. DEJAN LOVREN

ALBERTO MORENO. 7. With Andrew Robertson missing after the birth of his child, Moreno stepped in at left back again. That’s four starts out of five for the Spaniard this season. Not bad fro a guy who would never play for us again in July. Massively helped by Lovren having his best game of the season and his connection with Sadio Mane. Up against Oxlade-Chamberlain the two combined to pin back the Englishman all game. Another sound display.. Left Back. Liverpool
