Has Philippe Coutinho’s master plan to force a transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona in January been rumbled?

The saga has been rumbling on all summer and it shows no signs of finishing any time soon, although every Reds fans is praying for a return to normality.

Coutinho was a big part of the Anfield side making the Champions League last season, scoring 13 goals and assisting seven in 28 starts.

And now the Spanish website Sport appears to have rumbled a diabolical scheme by the player in order to engineer a dream move to the Catalan giants in January.

Apparently he has made his mind up and will not feature in any Champions League games so that he is still eligible for the last 16 stage of the competition, which starts in February.

The Brazilian has been included in the squad for the competition, so it would take something truly remarkable for him to force manager Jurgen Klopp to avoid playing him.

Such a feat would have to rank highly in the annals of time as an example of player power gone wrong. Every Liverpool fan is just hoping for him to get on with it as he returns from international football.

Coutinho could become a true icon at Anfield, but his conduct is bordering on the insane. If he has another amazing campaign, Barca will still want him. They may even bid more.

There could still be a way out of this that keeps all four interested parties (the player, both clubs and the fans) happy, but we’re nearing a point of no return now.
