According to a report by the Football Observatory, the best transfer deal of the summer was made by Liverpool for winger Mohamed Salah.

Almost every fan thinks their team does the best business in the transfer window. We rate our players highly and thinking everyone else is overpriced. Yet this time Liverpool fans are right. We officially had the best transfer of the summer.

The CIES Football Observatory has graded all the major moves of the summer 2017 transfer window. Their conclusion is that Liverpool did the best business. The transfer of Mohamed Salah from Rome to Anfield is the best move of the summer.

The Egyptian winger cost €50 million but he is actually worth €69.4 million. Liverpool saved almost £20 million by negotiating hard with Roma.

There is has been much criticism from some sections of the fanbase towards owners FSG of their handling of transfer business. This in one occasions when even those critics will have to say well done.

The worst value transfer in the window was Kylian Mbappe’s move from Monaco to PSG. The Parisians paid almost twice what the young Frenchman is worth. Liverpool were very interested in him. We will see if he can recreate last season’s stunning form again but in the French capital. If he can’t reach those heights, then Liverpool will have dodged a bullet with Mbappe.

With Neymar (£200m), Ousmane Dembele (£150m) and Mbappe (£180m) it nows looks insanely good value that our entire first line cost less than £100 million; Salah (£35m), Mane (£35m) and Firmino (£29m).

It is nice to think the era of the Reds wasting huge transfer sums is over. We can proud of the players we have brought in recently at a price that is very advantageous for the club.
