Liverpool player ratings: Defenders

6. Klopp reinserted Trent back into the XI today. The right back looked okay in this one. Burnley’s goal could somewhat be seen as his fault, as he lost the aerial battle to Robbie Brady and could only look on as the ball rolled onto Scott Arfield’s right foot. He did try to make up for it in the game’s late stages, as he sent a good cross into substitute Dominic Solanke that forced Nick Pope to push it up over the bar. Alexander-Arnold was also denied by Pope, after he took a James Milner cross onto his left foot and fired a shot on target. It was a true display of the highs and lows of our young right back.. Right Back. Liverpool. TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Center Back. Liverpool. JOEL MATIP. 6. If Alexander-Arnold is receiving blame for Burnley’s goal, then surely Matip deserves some as well. Both he and Klavan failed to corral Brady’s header as it came to Chris Wood. However, the Cameroonian centre back did act swiftly in the 80th minute with a great clearance off the line. Robbie Brady was causing Liverpool nightmares from set pieces all game, and his looping corner found Ben Mee’s head in a dangerous position. And while it was another underwhelming performance from Matip, we were lucky to have him in that spot.

6. Klavan looked to be the better of the two centre backs today. He was strong when he needed to be and worked well with Andrew Robertson on the left side. It seems wise for Klopp to continue to go with Klavan over Dejan Lovren until either one shows a serious change in form.. Center Back. Liverpool. RAGNAR KLAVAN

Liverpool. ANDREW ROBERTSON. 7. Robertson looked very solid today, just as he did a few weeks ago against Crystal Palace. An argument can be made that the Scotsman has had the fortune of playing against two weaker Premier League sides, but you can’t deny he has been quality against both. Robertson was able to contribute to Liverpool’s attack, while also keeping his shape defensively. It seems as though both Robertson and Moreno are solid options for Klopp at left back. And it sounds a bit ridiculous to say, but with Nathaniel Clyne out of action for an indefinite period of time, left back may currently be our strongest position in defence.. Left Back
