Liverpool player ratings: Midfielders

Liverpool. JAMES MILNER. 6. Making his first Premier League start since August 19, Milner looked solid in this one. As is his typical game, the 31-year-old was contributing on the attacking end by constantly firing in crosses and giving his teammates opportunities to score. However, he perhaps lacked the creativity Liverpool was in desperate need of today. And that’s led to shouts from many fans for the Ox to be given a chance to start in the near future.. 7. Can had another one of his games that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing. He was aggressive on the ball and made numerous efforts on goal. However, as is sometimes the case, his aggression was his downfall in one or two circumstances. A 71st minute cross from Milner found the head of Can, but he fired a shot over the bar rather than putting it back across the box. He did go on to look especially dangerous in the closing minutes, and appeared to be one of the hungrier players on the pitch today.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. EMRE CAN

7. Not many knew what to expect from Coutinho in his first start of the season. After dealing with back issues, transfer issues, and fitness issues, it would have been fair to assume he would play a relatively minor role in today’s game. But the reality was that Coutinho looked like Coutinho out there. His creativity with the ball was a difference maker. And despite not being able to find the mark with most of his shots, his return to the starting lineup was still a positive one. He was substituted for in the 78th minute, but looked good overall..
