Number 41: Andriy Voronin

Andriy Voronin was probably one of the least inspired Liverpool transfers of all time, but at least he actually played a few games before being shipped off.

The Ukranian striker was signed on a free after Bayer Leverkusen let his contract run down, and played 28 times during his debut Anfield campaign.

Voronin managed to hit the back of the net six times during his first season at the club – but that would prove to be the last time he would as his Liverpool career took a massive plunge after 2007/2008.

Benitez realised his mistake for the start of the 2008/2009 campaign, loaned him to Hertha Berlin (where the forward scored 11 times in 20 league games) but got him back when Berlin couldn’t afford to sign Voronin permanently.

He finally left for Dynamo Moscow during the January 2010 transfer window and that, folks, was that. Not the worst signing, but nowhere near the best or even good. @rusty_hughes

Number 40: Diego Cavalieri

Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri arrived at Liverpool from Palmeiras as competition for Pepe Reina. However, Cavalieri was unable to dislodge Reina and he spent his two seasons at Anfield largely on the bench besides the occasional cup game. At most, he was a serviceable backup.

He made 9 total first team appearances between 2008 and 2010 wothout ever playing int he Premier League. He did however play in both the Champions League and the Europa League for the Reds.

Cavalieri left Liverpool for Cesena in 2010 before going back to his native Brazil to join Fluminense. The Brazilian shot stopper has since made 188 appearances for the Rio de Janeiro outfit. Cavalieri has also been capped three times for his national team, but he’s unlikely to add to that after falling out of favor at Fluminense this season. @wilko_mart_cach
