Liverpool player ratings: Leicester v Liverpool Sep 23
By David Gate
Liverpool played out a heart stopping 3-2 away victory today against Leicester City in the Premier League. Here are our Liverpool player ratings:
Liverpool. Football. Club. It’s never easy.
We continue to be one of the most dangerous attacking sides and fragile defenses in the Premier League. The club should make defibrillators available on their website. Up the heart attack reds!
Mohamed Salah scored once again for the Reds before Philippe Coutinho put the summer far behind him with a sweet free kick.
The comfortable 2-0 lead was reduced on the stroke of half time after a needless free kick led to a corner we failed to deal with. After restoring the 2 goal advantage through Henderson’s goal we immediately get sloppy and leave Vardy unmarked in the box to bring it back to 3-2.
The ref then awards a dubious penalty. If Mignolet blasts the ball, rather than touching it, then it’s never given. Mignolet saves the spot kick again and Liverpool hang on for the victory. The win is our first in 5 games and is a valuable 3 points.
Both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Spurs all had won earlier in the day so the victory was crucial to keep pace with the league leaders and we now sit in fifth place. We can take the positivity of the win into a vital clash away to Spartak Moscow in midweek.
