Liverpool drew away in the Champions League 1-1 against Spartak Moscow in Russia today. Here are our Liverpool player ratings:

Liverpool continue their poor away from in the Champions League tonight with a 1-1 draw against Spartak Moscow. The Reds have not won away from home in the competition since 2009 and that run continued tonight.

The result feels eerily familiar but this was actually a different kind of performance from previous games. For one our defense played well. The whole back four went through a mistake-less 90 minutes.

The key errors of the game came from Emre Can and Loris Karius to give Spartak the goal they needed. We looked very secure for the rest of the match.

Philippe Coutinho’s clinical finish was the moment of attacking execution in what was a disappointing offensive performance from a team sheet that promised much more that what we got. Perhaps it’s going to take longer than we hoped for the forwards to gel.

We now have 5 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses for the season. That isn’t terrible. The two losses were with 10 men away to City and Leicester in the League Cup. But from here on out we need to kick on get a run of wins going.

Here are our Liverpool player ratings against Spartak Moscow:

Made a poor attempt to save the Fernando free kick which flew past him for the Spartak opener. A passenger for the rest of the game. Made a couple of good punches. There is no good reason for Karius to be given the gloves in these important Champions League games. Mignolet is better and Danny Ward is a better prospect.. Goalkeeper. Liverpool. LORIS KARIUS. 5
