Liverpool took on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park and fans are not happy with one of their ‘stars’.

For Magpies Georginio Wijnaldum joined the Reds for £25m last summer and is yet to score a goal or register an assist across 11 appearances and four competitions this season.

The 26-year-old had a nasty habit of going missing during away fixtures for United during their disastrous 2015/2016 relegation campaign, and Wijnaldum hasn’t been able to shake off that reputation.

In 40 matches for Newcastle, the Dutch international scored 11 times and registered five assists, but every single one of those goals was at home.

For Liverpool, Wijnaldum has hit the back of the net six times. Yup, you guessed it, they’ve all been at Anfield as well.

There is no doubting the fact that he is a fine player, but for all the talent the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder possesses, he has an infuriating habit of going missing in big games.

When Liverpool plays well, he plays well. Whether Wijnaldum drives the Reds or they drive him is yet to be seen, but the fact of the matter is that the 26-year-old has had an underwhelming season and that is leaving fans feeling incredibly frustrated.

The old problem of wastefulness reared its ugly head during the draw with Newcastle. For a team who lay their foundations on attack, that’s incredibly worrying and nearly every single one of their forwards was guilty of it.
