What I love about this goal is the Gerrard-ness. Philippe Coutinho is trying to open up some room for himself to shoot. He gets one away but it is straight at the defender. The ball comes out to Henderson around 20 yards and he powers it into the right hand corner.

It is reminiscent of Gerrard’s strikes against Olympiakos in the Champions League winning year 10 years previously. Also you can se hints of the 2006 FA Cup final winner. Henderson does not so much hit the ball as he does dismiss. It’s a denial of the ball’s very existence.

The way Henderson celebrates too is wonderful. Yep, I just did that. I am Liverpool captain. I am Gerrard’s inheritor and I’m gonna some mad things like he did. Tom Heaton does not have any chance whatsoever of saving this.
