Erik Meijer

This is the problem that has kept managers awake at night for decades: signing strikers from the Dutch league.

Ask Tottenham Hotspur about Vincent Janssen, Middlesbrough about Alfonso Alves and Liverpool about Erik Meijer.

Although Meijer was signed on a free, this still wasn’t the best business going. The once capped Dutch international played just 27 times across all competitions in his two years at Anfield.

His only two goals were both scored in the League Cup, during his first season at the club and he was swiftly released.
