Djibril Cissé

France forward Djibril Cissé was a man Houllier wanted, but Benitez ended up managing the striker in his first season in England.

A red hot goal scorer in his native land, Cissé struggled across in the Premier League and hit the back of the net just three times in 15 games before suffering a horrible tibia and fibula fracture.

Although Cissé made 33 league appearances during 2005-2006, he only scored nine times and was sold the following campaign.

Things could have been so much different had Houllier stayed on and had he not suffered that injury, but these are the fine lines footballers deal with.
