Could be worse! Glad it isn’t Dean! Liverpool fans like the ref choice for Manchester United clash
Liverpool fans are happy with the choice of referee Martin Atkinson for their massive game against Manchester United on Saturday.
Despite Steven Gerrard claiming that he was his most hated official in his autobiography – as per the Liverpool Echo, and despite Atkinson sending Gerrard off after 38 second on the pitch during a Reds vs United game, fans on Reddit are pleased with the choice.
The Red Devils have won every time the referee has taken charge (that’s three), but records are made to be broken and that could all change on Saturday.
However, the official is good and is often handed the biggest game. For example, the last match Atkinson took charge of was Chelsea’s clash against Manchester City.

Let’s be honest, Martin Atkinson may not be perfect, but there are far worse.”louislamprell: “I actually like martin atkinson. I feel he is consistent. He lets a lot of —- fly but hes generally consistent in it. Not afraid of a yellow either so… herrera can cop a couple then jog on.”PaulLFC: “At least it’s not Kevin Friend, or Lee Mason (thankfully I don’t think Mason gets any big games these days which says it all).”WillDaThrilll13: “Fine with Atkinson but worried that Moss as the 4th could somehow end up f***ing us.”"
