Liverpool fans react with annoyance and disillusion to the news that Romelu Lukaku will face no punishment for his stamp on Dejan Lovren.

It was one of the more controversial moments from Liverpool’s game against Manchester United on Saturday. Romelu Lukaku stamped on Dejan Lovren after the two were tangled in a challenge. Many at the time though there should have been a red card but it went unnoticed by the referee.

While you would hope the ref or another official would see something like that they can’t observe everything that happens on a pitch. Especially as they play had moved on. However this is why the FA has a review board. It exists to look back on the tape and make decisions over violent conduct that the referee has missed.

The news today is that Lukaku will face no further action over the stamp. This is ridiculous and Liverpool fans are taking to social media to let the FA know what they think:

The decision has inevitably drawn comparisons to the Sadio Mane ban which was upheld by the FA and Premier League. What makes the decision even more infuriating is that the stamp came just minutes after Lukaku should have been booked for a nasty challenge on Joe Gomez.

Dejan Lovren spoke to the media today and has no uncertainty about whether or not Lukaku meant the stamp: “My honest view is that he did it on purpose”. He went on to talk about how the Belgian could have moved away and avoided the collision.

Manchester United should be without their leading scorer for the next three games. Instead they suffer no consequences for Lukaku’s dirty play.
