Joey Barton has called Liverpool out in a big way following their Tottenham Hotspur defeat.

The Merseyside born midfielder has had enough of manager Jurgen Klopp and has criticised him for his training ground methods.

Barton ranted while on talkSPORT about the German and his team’s lack of defensive strength, wrote Sports Mole.

“They have a great forward line. Salah has been a great signing. Coutinho they managed to keep hold of, but some of the decision-making at the back is criminal,” the former Newcastle United man explained.

Tottenham Hotspur beat the Reds convincingly on Sunday afternoon thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli.

Liverpool’s defence has had its ups and downs already this season, but things looked to be on the right track after they kept two clean sheets in a row against Manchester United and Maribor.

Although it has been proven that more adventurous teams can get the better of them – as Spurs showed on Sunday and Manchester City proved during the week.

“Two weeks ago [Klopp] was writing a book on defending in two hours. Well, clearly none of his back four and the keeper have read that.

“You have to take anything Jurgen Klopp says as BS! I was one of the first to say I ain’t having him. The mistakes they are making at the back, the attitude to defending, it makes me think: what are they doing during the week?,” raged Barton.

It’s because of that, you’d think Klopp would have the team doing defensive drills until they were blue in the face, but it doesn’t appear to be so.

With the January transfer window around the corner, the former Borussia Dortmund man will be considering dipping his hands into his pockets and signing a new central defender.

A replacement goalkeeper for Simon Mignolet or Loris Karius may also be on the to-do list, and Atletico Madrid man Jan Oblek has been linked to the club this week.

That deal would certainly make sense and it’s completion might give Klopp a bit of breathing space from the ranting ex-players like Barton.
