Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has been made to regret a stupid prediction he made about Liverpool.

The disgraced pal of Andy Grey was an early fan of the transfer business Everton did over the summer months and backed them on Twitter to finish above the Reds.

After wasting more than £100 million on a series of poor players, the Toffies are languishing in the relegation zone and have just sacked their manager Ronald Koeman.

Investments such as Davy Klassan and the protracted chase for Icelandic hero Gylfi Sigurdsson have proven to be a poor use of the Romelu Lukaku windfall.

But now the BeIN Sports pundit has been made to look pretty stupid after that massive blunder and in hindsight perhaps the call was designed to provoke a response from football fans.

Koeman invested too much in attacking midfielders and then tried to shoehorn them into the squad at the expense of the club’s wingers, and a season observer such as Keys should have been able to foresee that.

And while Liverpool aren’t having the best of seasons, their 16 points puts them comfortably ahead of Everton – who only have eight.

The campaign might be frustratingly stop-start, but there are clear signs of an exciting, dynamic and destructive team waiting to be molded by Jurgen Klopp.

With Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane in the squad, Klopp can call on some of the best attacking talent in the league. Everton can’t and that’s partly the reason why Keys will prove to be so, so wrong.
