Liverpool player ratings: Defenders

The news of Nathaniel Clyne’s unspecified injury and return means that Klopp is going to keep rolling with Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back. It seems Gomez gets the nod in the league while TAA gets to feature in Europe. He had a very solid first half but gotten badly beaten for strength for Lanzini to score.. Right Back. Liverpool. JOE GOMEZ. 6

7. A shaky first twenty minutes was well and truly put behind after Matip scored off a corner after Joe Hart’s tame save. Despite only conceding one goal you still don’t feel great about this back four. Matip had a decent game but neither Javier Hernandez or Andy Carroll offered much threat at all. Solid defensive display and an important goal.. Center Back. Liverpool. JOEL MATIP

6. Had a few moments early on – not helped by an ever changing formation. Once Liverpool were ahead he settled down. As the back three became a back four he looked a lot more comfortable. Put in a good second half display and did not collapse as the game hit a chaotic 20 minutes in between West Ham’s goal and Salah’s second.. Center Back. Liverpool. RAGNAR KLAVAN

Left Back. Liverpool. ALBERTO MORENO. 7. Celebrated his recent call up to the Spain squad by putting in a now standard 7/10 performance. Busy down the left and he enjoyed reforming his connection with Sadio Mane who helps him defensively and gives him room to burst forward.
