Liverpool player ratings: Midfield

8. Played deeper than usual with Henderson and Milner missing and was a key part in helping make sure that West Ham never got a grip on the game. Smarter and quicker than his opponents. He is never the most dynamic player but doesn’t need to be when he is so clever. Quietly goes about making Liverpool tick. Who cares if he only scores at Anfield?. Center Midfield. Liverpool. GINI WIJNALDUM

7. Regained his place in the side over James Milner despite his contract stalemate being a sore point for the fans. Mark Noble was no match for the mighty German who did not have to get out of second gear to dominate the West Ham midfield. Maybe Liverpool can find a contract solution in the next few weeks as we break for the internationals.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. EMRE CAN

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN. 7. Boy he wants to do well at Liverpool. Every time he gets the ball he is looking to do something meaningful. The only downside is that he isn’t quite able to do everything he is attempting. He had a wonderful opportunity to score but hit it straight at Joe Hart. The ball fell back to him for him to score his first league strike for the club. Loved seeing his joy at the goal.. Center Midfield. Liverpool
