After a Man-of-the-Match performance for England tonight Liverpool fans are taking to social media to praise the superb performance of Joe Gomez.

Joe Gomez lit up a boring 0-0 draw between England and Brazil at Wembley with a stellar man of the match performance. He is surely forcing his way into contention for a place to next year’s 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Starting at center back he held Brazil’s famous attack to a rare clean sheet. Neymar – the world’s most expensive player – was kept firmly under wraps by the England Under 21 captain. His Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho also could not find a way through.

Liverpool – and England – fans took to Twitter tonight to praise his performance.

Gomez was making his full England debut and looked a cut above his peers. It is something of a problem position for England. John Stones is a leading contender for international action after cementing his place in the Man City first team.

Gary Cahill has lost his place for Chelsea and now is looking on the outside. Other options for England manager Gareth Southgate are Michael Keane of Everton and Harry Maguire of Leicester. Neither of those players has impressed for club or country this season.

It could well be a Gomez and Stones partnership starting for England this summer. The question is was Jurgen Klopp watching his young star’s impressive showing in the center.

The fans have been advocating for pairing Joe Gomez with Joel Matip at center half all season. The poor level of performances from Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan have made this a talking point for Reds supporters. Now that chatter will get louder.

However, the news that Nathaniel Clyne will be out until February makes it likely that Gomez will continue to play most of his games at right back. Klopp has not yet shown full faith in Trent Alexander-Arnold to hold that place on a permanent basis.
