England managed to keep hold of the 0-0 stalemate despite several close calls from Brazil this evening. The international friendly featured Liverpool’s Joe Gomez in the starting XI who was named Man of the Match.

Joe Gomez and Dominic Solanke featured in tonight’s 20:00 kick off against the current best team in the world. Brazil’s attacking sharks failed to break the mould against the England side. With Gomez often being the one to alleviate the danger in the box.

Solanke came close to a goal chance after just seconds on the pitch. He twisted through Brazil’s defence but the pressure fizzled out after a foul outside the box. His energy and talent is definitely a secret weapon of Jurgen Klopp’s.

Man of the Match

Gomez had a fantastic game for the Lions. After being picked over Danny Rose, the Liverpool defender showed that Gareth Southgate had definitely made the right decision. The 20-year-olds awareness and sharp tackling kept Brazil’s attack at bay.

His work ethic shone above the other England defenders – a well-earned MOTM award. After his streak of great games for England, it’s looking extremely likely that he’s bagged a permanent place in the squad.

Although the match wasn’t really one to be remembered, it certainly will be for the Liverpool youngsters. Gomez especially said it’s a ‘great honour’ to play in the England shirt during the post-match interview.

Premier League duties

After the international break closes, Joe Gomez will return to his position in Liverpool’s squad. The Reds are due to face Southampton on Saturday 18th November. Definitely a game to prove a point.

Although the Saints’ attack isn’t up to scratch at the moment, Virgil van Dijk will no doubt be facing the club he narrowly missed out on joining. But after a solid performance for England, Gomez will be at his best ahead of the next clash at Anfield.

Solanke could make an appearance too; no doubt Klopp will have been watching his performance tonight and rubbing his hands together.

Liverpool need to make some serious decisions over who will be the permanent right-back defender. With Gomez keeping Brazilian forwards in his pocket, I think it’s a no brainer who deserves that starting spot.
