Do these quotes from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp mean forward Daniel Sturridge is going nowhere in the January transfer window?

Recent reports have surfaced saying that Sturridge is ready to leave Anfield in order to get enough football to push for a World Cup place.

The 28-year-old has hardly featured for the Reds this season and would be welcome by a number of teams, who view him as a talented finisher – said the Mirror.

Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp is saying that he doesn’t want Sturridge to leave Merseyside, despite England manager Gareth Southate leaving the former Chelsea man out of the team to face Germany and Brazil because he hadn’t played enough football.

"“I can imagine a player with his quality is not happy that he is not starting all the time, but that’s all,” Goal.com reported that he said.“The situation with the player is completely OK. At this moment we are in November and need all our players — even if he feels a little different.“There is around one-and-a-half months before the window opens and I don’t think about things like this. There are so many games before then and I need all of them.”"

Sturridge’s career has not followed the path many predicted it would after he starred alongside Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling in *that* whirlwind season under Brendan Rodgers.

Both those attackers are gone, while Sturridge has never hit those heights again. Injuries have certainly played a problem, but even now that he’s fit Klopp still prefers Roberto Firmino.

Can the striker last a full 90 minutes, and can he played in 80% of a team’s league games without breaking down? Those are both questions Klopp and any interested manager needs to ask themselves before taking a punt on the player.

He’s definitely got the talent and he can still score goals – even if we’ve just seen glimpses of that this season – which explains why Klopp is reluctant for him to leave Anfield.

That’s harsh on the player, especially in a tournament year, but right now the club comes first and Klopp is well within his rights to make that call.
