Right Back: Trent Alexander-Arnold

The youngster got the nod last week against Southampton and put in his best defensive performance yet for the Reds. He will always be a high level attacking threat, the question has been ‘can he defend?’.

We have seen him defend well before but last week was the first time you thought ‘yeah, I’m not worried about him’. He ended up being the highest rated Premier League right back on Whoscored.com last week.

Chelsea’s forwards are certainly a step (leap?) up from Southampton but I think we have to keep giving TAA opportunities to prove himself at the next level. Crucially for Liverpool having him on the right opens up room for Salah. The opposition left back has to be thinking about both players at all times.

We saw against Southampton how that worked perfectly. Salah put in a man-of-the-match performance with the room TAA affords him.

The only red flag is that the last time Klopp went for TAA in a big game was against Man City earlier in the season. Kevin de Bruyne bullied him all day. I could see Klopp opting for Gomez as the safer option of the two, especially with Marcos Alonso on the other side of the ball.

Chelsea will not be adventurous in an away game and we need to double down on our strengths; pacy, lethal attacking football.
