Liverpool: This is the back four we want to see against Chelsea

Left Back: Andrew Robertson

Alberto Moreno has been the unquestioned first choice left back this season. His surprising level of play has earned him that right. But now is the time to give him a rest.

His litany of errors against Seville only highlight how bad he can be once his head goes. If Klopp is even considering using him on Saturday he needs to know that the Seville game was an aberration and not a cliff.

While I am most concerned with Moreno’s mental state we also have to consider his physical state too. He has played more outfield minutes than every other player except Mohamed Salah this season.

Robertson has largely been forgotten by the manager. Despite doing well in all his opportunities he has often failed to even make the bench. The manager preferring to have flexibility with James Milner or Gomez being left back options should Moreno go down injured.

Liverpool are never very far away from a defensive catastrophe. I would rather see this back four (TAA, Matip, Gomez & Robertson) get a chance to develop and grow than worry about the ‘veteran’ defenders.

Lovren, Klavan, Moreno and Mignolet all mean trouble to me. I don’t think our young back four will be without error or mistake but I can accept that when they are learning. I hope we don’t treat this game as too big to fail in; that may be a recipe for disaster.
