Liverpool player ratings: Defenders

6. Another game where Gomez looks like a center back playing on the right. He was not poor but does not look natural there and that is a problem against players of the quality of Hazard and Alonso. Trent Alexander-Arnold gives the side much better balance but he is not yet trusted in these big games.. Right Back. Liverpool. JOE GOMEZ

7. Back after missing the last two games with injury. Reds were glad to se his name on the team sheet and rumors of his return were confirmed. Spent most of the game matched up with Alvaro Morata and kept the Spaniard well in check.. Center Back. Liverpool. JOEL MATIP

5. The celiling is low for Ragnar Klavan. The best you can hope for is a nondescript, boring perfromance devoid of any drama. We didn’t quite get that from the Estonian today. One panic moment in the second half to send Anfield hearts in mouths. He then got caught flat footed by Willian for the Chelsea goal.. Center Back. Liverpool. RAGNAR KLAVAN

7. Kept his place after a terrible second half in the Champions League. A far more composed display today as he was tidy in possession and made a number of important blocks and challenges. Did well to get his head right for this game. Almost gave away a penalty in stoppage time but just kept it on the right side of the rules.. Left Back. Liverpool. ALBERTO MORENO
