Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

7. The perfect game for Gomez to play right back. No tricky winger to face and a physical matchup that suits his strength. He defended well all game and also made a difference going forward. it was his run to the byline that helped set up the first goal to get the Reds rolling.. Right Back. Liverpool. JOE GOMEZ

Liverpool. JOEL MATIP. 6. Aside from one ball he read badly near half time this was a very secure performance from the Cameroonian. Choupo-Moting spent the game trying to make life difficult for him but Matip was unflappable. You would love to see a little more Carragher-esque leadership from him but that is not personality.. Center Back

DEJAN LOVREN. 7. Stoke started with Peter Crouch up front and were looking to get the ball to him early. Dejan Lovren shut that down. These are the games you wish he could have every week. Confident, assured and taking charge. Unfortunately he can’t face Crouchy every week.. Center Back. Liverpool

A bright start faded when he was caught out of position on a handful of occasions in quick succession. He is the one outfield player that doesn’t seem to be rested or rotated. Could do with a break after two solid games to recover from his Seville disaster.. Left Back. Liverpool. ALBERTO MORENO. 6
