Give Gomez his chance! The Liverpool back four we want against Bournemouth
By David Gate
Right Back: Trent Alexander-Arnold
Is it possible that Alexander-Arnold can get two consecutive games at right back? This is the position that Klopp is most committed to rotating. There has been a consistent job share for the right back position since Nathaniel Clyne was ruled out for half the season with injury.
Gomez has been excellent but he is a center back filling in on the right, gaining valuable match experience. Yet it is Trent Alexander-Arnold who looks like the right back of the future. His performances are increasingly mature. His whoscored.com average is around 7.3. That is excellent for a young player contributing at domestic and European level.
He flashed talent in the two games against Hoffenheim and away to Maribor in the Champions League. He got both his goals this season in that competition. However it was Wednesday’s man-of-the-match showing against West Brom that is the real sign of growth.
The most dynamic back four we can field has him at right back. His inclusion brings instant balance to the side. There will be occasions where we will want the height of Gomez alongside two other center backs. But for the most part TAA has shown he deserves the lion’s share of the right back role.
