No. 1: Jurgen Klopp v Arsene Wenger
The German has been utterly dominate in his four matchups against Arsenal at Liverpool. He has three wins and one draw. The Reds have scored 14 goals in those four games. FOURTEEN. Never scoring less than three against them.
Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund faced Arsenal four times in the Champions League group stages over two seasons between 2014 -15. There split two wins each but the final Arsenal win was after Dortmund had already qualified for the knock out stage with the top spot all but guaranteed.
While Wenger made his name as a clever tactician he has not been as inventive or insightful in the last 5-10 years. The change Arsenal made to a back three was continental shift for the Gunners. It was the bravest thing Wenger has done in a decade. Yet it only came after a series of horrid results that essentially ended their Champions League hopes in 2016/17.
That change helped them pull off a surprise win in the FA Cup final and sent them into this season with a sense of hope that maybe their defensive worries will abate. Their visit to Anfield in August ended that false dream.
