Merry Christmas Reds! The long wanted defender has arrived wrapped with a bow on. Liverpool FC confirm the signing of Virgil van Dijk.

Today reports have confirmed that Big Virgil van Dijk will be making his Anfield move on 1 January. After a summer transfer nightmare with Southampton, the tensions have simmered and the deal is done. The Saints have accepted a £75 million bid for the Dutchman from a very eager Liverpool.

Despite strong interest shown from Man City to extend their already deadly squad, van Dijk has declined any Manchester offers. The defender has had his heart set on an Anfield move since the summer link up.

The centre-back will wear the Number 4 shirt and will almost certainly take Dejan Lovren’s place in the squad permanently. Fans are more than pleased about this. Teamed up with Joel Matip, the two six-foot powerhouses will be a force to be reckoned with.

The best Christmas present

Fans and players alike are ecstatic about the news. Virgil is everything Liverpool need right now to become a truly unstoppable team and go toe-to-toe with City.

After Klopp’s stubbornness not to pursue another centre-back in the summer, there was outrage. The club’s defence this season has been one of the worst in the Premier League. Too many errors have forced Liverpool to lose two and three-nil leads on numerous occasions. VVD could be the key to ending our run of defensive woes.

At last a promising defensive signing has been made and will completely change the way Liverpool think and behave at the back. FA Cup and Champions League success is on the cards now more than ever. And with any further business Klopp finalizes in January, Liverpool’s 2018/19 Premier League season will be the one to look out for.
