Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

7. He has played more then anyone over this holiday season but that is because he is so important. He returned to the right back role where Klopp like using him in the big games. On the end of an ugly late challenge by Wayne Rooney early in the game but did not let that fluster him. Bossed his side of the pitch for the entire game. Mason Holgate wishes he was Joe Gomez.. Right Back. Liverpool. JOE GOMEZ

7. I think it is easy to over analyze body language but I’m going to do it anyway. This was the most confident and relaxed that Matip has looked all season. It is like the pressure of leading the Liverpool has been taken off his shoulders. At least it has been shared. A solid showing from the center half.. Center Back. Liverpool. JOEL MATIP

8. Bill Shankly changed Liverpool’s kit to all red because it made the team look massive. He’d have loved seeing Virgil van Dijk head-to-toe in Liverpool garb! Had a fantastic chance to give the Reds a two goal advantage but his header was straight at Pickford. But somethings are just meant to be. He met a corner in the 84th minute with a powerful header to score a goal on his debut in front of the Kop. After 6 months of trying to get him here that moment is special!. Center Back. Liverpool. VIRGIL VAN DIJK

9. Everton had one early tactic; attack Andrew Robertson. The Scotsman absorbed everything thrown at him. Bolasie  was assigned to pressure him as the Toffees fastest and most direct player. No beans. Robertson did very well early in the second half to deal with a cross at the back post. His tackling today was exceptional; deciding where and when to challenge for the ball like a great full back does. Man of the match.. Left Back. Liverpool. ANDREW ROBERTSON
