There is a growing swell of opinion in the Liverpool fanbase that Daniel Agger should replace Michael Owen as an LFC ambassador.

Amongst Liverpool fans there is momentum for change. Many would like to see club ambassador Michael Owen replaced with Danish star Daniel Agger. This idea is gaining much appreciation on social media.

Owen became Liverpool’s first official international ambassador in April of 2016. He has name football fans recognize around the globe and in theory should be a good candidate for the role. There’s just one Manchester United sized problem…

The Englishman was a popular figure at Anfield as leapt on to the scene as a teenager in the 1997/98 season. He went on to help Liverpool win the cup treble in 2001 before being sold to Real Madrid on Rafa Benitez’ arrival in 2004.

While being a local(ish) lad he never made it into the hearts of Kopites in the same way that his contemporaries like Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher did. When he ended up moving to Manchester United in 2009 he did the unthinkable.

Daniel Agger – who is number 5 on our best Benitez’ signings rankings – on the other hand is a cult hero. He has the “You’ll Never Walk Alone” initials tattooed on his knuckles. There are very few foreign players who have thrown themselves into the culture of Liverpool football club in the way that Agger did.

The 33-year-old’s career was cut short by injury but his 9 seasons at the club were enough to make him a Kop legend. Most Liverpool fans feel that Agger deserves the ambassador role over Owen. And they are right.

I am not in the camp that despises Owen but I the choice between him and Agger is a no-brainer to me. Come on Liverpool, give The Dagger a job.
