Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

7. Ah Joe. A supremely talented defender that has let some errors creep into his game in the last few months. Misread Kyle Walker’s long ball to Sane and let the German get goal side of him for the first City goal. Elsewhere he was pretty decent as Sane is a real handful.. Right Back. Liverpool. JOE GOMEZ

7. Decent showing from Matip helped out by a very active midfield three that protected the center backs well. Patient and calm he thrives against teams who like to play it short. Reads that side of the game very well.. Center Back. Liverpool. JOEL MATIP

Liverpool. DEJAN LOVREN. 7. Got a chance with van Dijk being injured. Lots of concern about how he would handle the pace of Aguero and Sterling. Robertson took care of the Englishman and Lovren let Aguero have barely a sniff. Glad they we won’t see him every week now but he is not a bad replacement as a third or fourth choice CB. One late error let City back in it for 3 of the longest minutes of your life.. Center Back

9. Another great showing from the Scotsman who is grabbing his first team opportunity with both hands. Matching up with Raheem Sterling he gave nothing to the ex-Red who has been in exceptional form. Late in the second half he was pressing the keeper. The keeper! So many great attacking performances but he is in the conversation for man of the match.. Left Back. Liverpool. ANDREW ROBERTSON
