Liverpool owner John Henry has been ranked by Forbes as one of the richest owners in sports with a net worth of $2.5 billion.

John Henry, the Liverpool owner has been ranked by finance and leadership media giant Forbes as one of the richest owners in sports. He ranks 36th in top American sports owners. He has a net worth of $2.5 billion.

As the owner of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club he has a sports empire including Roush Fenway Racing and the New England Sports Network. The only other Premier League owner to feature on the lift is Stan Kroenke who owns the LA Rams NFL franchise and Arsenal Football Club. He appears at number 5 on the list with a net worth of $8.1 billion.

While many fans would be happy to see their owner appear on such a prestigious list it comes at a controversial moment. Liverpool recently sold Philippe Coutinho for a British transfer record of £145 million.

Most fans expect Liverpool to be busy in the current January transfer window after selling on of their best players for a huge profit. However, every indication from the club currently is that Virgil van Dijk will be the only incoming player in this window.

In fact Liverpool could lose another play or two with rumors of interest in forwards Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings. Sturridge is the subject of a move from Inter Milan with Sevilla also keen on the player.

If Liverpool were to sell Sturridge now, which is their preference over a loan move, then FSG will make a huge profit in this window.

News of Henry’s enormous wealth will not sit well with fans who are crying out for new transfers. With the money from Coutinho’s sale the Reds should be able to get an attacking replacement like Thomas Lemar and goalkeeper such as Jan Oblak or Alisson.
