Right Back: Trent Alexander-Arnold

We have not seen Trent Alexander-Arnold since the New Year’s Day game against Burnley. With long breaks in between games there has been less need for rotation. That has meant Joe Gomez has started the last three games at right back.

That made a ton of sense against Everton and Manchester City. However there are real questions about whether Alexander-Arnold should have started against Swansea. As Liverpool spent the second half camped in the opposition half of the pitch looking for an equalizer we could have done with TAA’s width and pace.

The youngster started against West Brom in the Premier League fixture in December and was Liverpool’s man-of-the-match that day. There is no doubt that Liverpool will need all of TAA’s attacking intent and ability to create space for Mohamed Salah.

West Brom are bound to employ exactly the same tactics for this match as they did in the league game. They will sit deep, and double up on all of the Liverpool forwards. We could very well be relying on a breakthrough from deep and Trent Alexander-Arnold is perfect for that role.
