Liverpool player ratings: Defenders

6. A poor first half was redeemed with a good ball for Salah’s goal. Was naive in possession at times and will not want to rewatch either of West Brom’s first two goals. Added evidence to Klopp’s position that Joe Gomez is the more trustworthy of the two players.. Right Back. Liverpool. TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

5. A poor one from the Cameroonian defender. He is as guilty as anyone of losing their head when Liverpool have those panic-filled periods like we saw in the first half. His usual calm and collectedness vanishes. There he makes poor passes and seems incapable of reading the apparent danger. Get Klavan back in.. Center Back. Liverpool. JOEL MATIP

Initially the first goal looked like his mistake but he was being held back by Hal Robson-Kanu. Spent the rest of the game shouting at everyone; Matip, Moreno, the midfield. A sign of our chronic defensive issues that the new boy is the only one who knows what everyone should be doing. Magnificent in the air once again.. Center Back. Liverpool. VIRGIL VAN DIJK. 7

3. This was vintage ‘Bad Moreno’. He came into the side for his first start since injuring his ankle in December. Immediately you were wishing the injury had been worse. Clearly not ready to return, he was slow to react on all three West Brom goals. Gave the ball away on numerous occasions, especially in the second half. Crosses were awful.. Left Back. Liverpool. ALBERTO MORENO
