Liverpool player ratings: Midfield

4. Given the armband again but did nothing to prove himself worthy of that responsibility. A combination of a pedestrian level of effort, sporadic petulance and a paucity of ideas made for a poor showing for the the German. Made way for James Milner who was much better. That tells you what you need to know.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. EMRE CAN

Liverpool. GINI WIJNALDUM. 6. The pick of the three central midfielders in the first half and the only one that seemed to take offense to Liverpool losing. Made a handful of timely tackles and tried to get Liverpool going. The only midfielder to make the cut after the triple sub he held back late on while Henderson and Milner pressed on for a goal.. Center Midfield

Firmly back down to earth after his excellent performance in the win against Man City. There was plenty of evidence today of the midfield trio not being able to find rhythm or balance. Because of that was a little lost at times; stuck in a limbo fo not knowing when to attack or defend. He did neither badly but equally was unable to take hold of the game in the way we need from central areas. Made way for Jordan Henderson in the triple sub.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN. 5
