1. Sublime Salah

The best moment of the night came from Mohamed Salah. He is one of the most in-form forwards in Europe. His rate of scoring and assists is exceptional – rivaling anyone else in the Champions League.

James Milner was unlucky not to score after he had won the ball at the edge of the Porto box and curled a fierce shot onto the post. Fortunately the ball landed to Salah. However there was no simple goal to grab. He had the keeper and the defender to beat… and how he beat them!

The ball comes at him so fast that he does well to control it at all. Though the pace on the ball takes that touch slightly too near the keeper who moves to grab it. But before the goalie can get there Salah has the cutest of touches to take it over the keeper.

The ball is now in the air, over the keeper. If he goes to head it in then the defender is going to block it because he won’t get enough power. Instead he does a deft nod of the ball onto his left foot. The defender desperately anticipating Salah’s finish dives in to block the finish.

The Egyptian reads this instinctively and prods it up into the empty right side of the goal. All this happens in two seconds.

Liverpool double their lead and the Mo Salah song rings around the ground. It reminded everyone of Lionel Messi. That is how sublime the goal was in its execution. Beautiful stuff.
