Liverpool fans are furious at the transfer rumour that has seen Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland linked with a £40m move.

Butland is wanted by Anfield chiefs, who are willing to splash the cash to land the English stopper – wrote the Liverpool Echo.

Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson has previously been linked with a move to Merseyside, but he would cost around £70 million, said the newspaper.

Loris Karius has recently been installed as manager Jurgen Klopp’s first choice ‘keeper and wouldn’t welcome the competition, which would spell the end for Simon Mignolet.

But Liverpool fans are not happy about the news linking Butland to the club, just read through some of the tweets expressing outrage and surprise below. Don’t forget to leave a comment and tell us your views!

Klopp has been trying to sign a new stopper for ages, but Karius has improved since taking over the Premier League gloves from Mignolet and there is now an argument that the German should be given more time.

If Alisson, who plays for Mohamed Salah’s former side AS Roma, was available in the summer would it be negligence for FSG not to pursue such an obvious upgrade on the Reds’ current options?

Their transfer shortlist definitely seems to have been narrowed down to those two options, while midfielder Ivan Rakitic has also been linked with a move to Anfield.

In the same Echo article, the Barcelona man is said to be considering his option after the arrival of Philippe Coutinho. It would be some twist of fate that allowed Liverpool to sign the world-class Croatian after losing their own star man to his club.

Rakitic coming in would make more sense, especially if Emre Can decides to leave at the end of his deal – which expires in the summer. He would add goals and assists from midfield and strengthen Klopp’s options in a competitive area of the pitch.
