Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has earned a lot of praise for his debut campaign, but it’s Andrew Robertson that should be considered the signing of the season.

Salah has definitely been the star of the show since his arrival from AS Roma in the summer, and not since Fernando Torres has a forward hit the ground running as well as the Egyptian.

His goals but him four ahead of any other striker across Europe’s top five leagues and have propelled Salah to new heights in the game.

But it’s a Scottish defender who has a genuine claim to being the best deal that the Reds have made all season.

Robertson, who endured a tricky start to Anfield life, moved across the country from Hull for a fee of just over £8 million.

But there is now no doubting the left-back, who has picked up 19 international caps for Scotland, as he’s firmly displaced the up-and-down Alberto Moreno.

For such a small fee, it looks like Liverpool have picked up an absolute bargain as Robertson has now totally bought into the way that Jurgen Klopp likes to play his football. He presses hard, he’s energetic down the flank and he can provide ammunition to the front three.

Robertson has now started and completed 90 minutes in eight of the last nine Premier League games. He also been named in the starting XI in 16 out of 17 fixtures and has become a really important part of the side.

The Scot is now clearly part of Klopp’s long-term plans and it’s extremely encouraging to see a youngster in a position where he can only improve as his time at the club increases.

For such a small fee, from a newly relegated side, shows the strength in Liverpool’s scouting department while the improvements seen during the second half of the campaign show how good the coaching is.

Goals tend to get all the limelight and of course Salah has been tremendous, but for value for money and the amount he’s improved, Robertson has to go down as the signing of the season.
