My sincere condolences for his family and friends!! pic.twitter.com/nv4PcXIReJ
He had a long playing career having spells for Manchester United, Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers where he was player/manager for a few season. He also was unafraid to venture abroad playing for AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain and Glasgow Rangers.
Wilkins was unfortunate not to win more during his career with only a league title in Scotland and the 1983 FA Cup in his time. Yet it was as an England international that won him most plaudits. He had 84 appearances for the Three Lions, captaining 10 times, and was a fixture of the side in the 1970 and 80âs under Don Revie, Roy Greenwood and Bobby Robson.
He was not just respected on the field but off it to. An assistant coach at Chelsea, Millwall and England U-21s and as a TV pundit he gained the admiration of all he worked with. The flood of tributes to his character, even more than his career, confirm the influence he had.
