Why Danny Ings deserve a Bournemouth start
Liverpool striker Danny Ings deserves to be handed a start against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
It’s been a really horrible, slow, frustrating story for Ings and Anfield. The two were supposed to work magic. They nearly did. But then, and like all fairytales, disaster intervened.
But the development of a talented young player into a nationwide star doesn’t follow scripted lines. There are no knights in shining armour, there aren’t even any in shining tracksuit pants – no matter how hard Tony Pulis tries.
After an 11-goal breakout season with a relegated Burnley, Ings ran down his contract and joined Liverpool for free. The first steps on this tale of woe had begun.

Then, he promptly hit two goals. Things were looking good. Reds fans could push their chest out and beam with pride at this homegrown talent they had just acquired on the cheap. Maybe this would work. Yes, maybe things would be all right.
Nope. Injury after horrible injury followed and now Ings, 25-year-old Ings, has had nowhere near the level of football required for him to improve and fulfill his potential.

But could there be a last throw of the dice? Could there be redemption? Surely not, but manager Jurgen Klopp should try anyway – starting against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Roberto Firmino has played like a God all season, but he is just human. The Brazilian needs to be protected, to be rested. Klopp has the resources and the squad depth to enable him to do so, which is why Ings must start.
Ings must also start because one game against Everton isn’t enough, especially as the striker is fighting for his Anfield future. Two games isn’t even enough but it’ll have to do, for now.

The man has been in the periphery of the squad all season. He’s trained well. He’s had little nibbles of the cherry all campaign. A start here, a Champions League appearance there. Now it’s time to give him the whole thing and you never know, maybe this all could end well after all.
