No.1: West Brom Have Beaten Liverpool Already

The Reds have faced West Brom twice already this season; they drew and they lost. The draw at Anfield in the league was a frustrating evening. A boring 0-0 where Jurgen Klopp played a surprising 442 formation.

Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho started on the wings with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino up front. It did not work as West Brom defended deep in numbers. They could not break down the amassed ranks of defenders and threw away two league points.

The FA Cup tie at Anfield was a very different affair. That was a 3-2 error-strewn evening with controversial VAR technology the talk of the game. West Brom had a goal disallowed after VAR showed Gareth Barry to be offside. Then a penalty was given to Liverpool after the replay had shown a tug on Salah.

That game was Liverpool’s worst result of the season – closely followed by the loss to Spurs at Wembley. It was the highlight of Alan Pardew’s otherwise highlight-less spell at West Brom which recently ended. I’m still annoyed about going out of the cup at home to the Baggies; the only loss at Anfield all season.
