Liverpool fans have absolutely blasted £18m defender Alberto Moreno after his performance against West Brom in the Premier League.

Moreno was restored to the starting XI as Andrew Robertson was rested ahead of the Champions League semi-final first leg against AS Roma on Tuesday.

And safe to say, manager Jurgen Klopp’s decision backfired as Moreno endured a difficult afternoon.

To make things even worse, the Baggies oversaw a remarkable comeback as they drew 2-2 after being 2-0 down.

Danny Ings opened the scoring before Mohamed Salah hit the back of the net for the 31st time in the league this campaign. For the home side, Jake Livermore scored his first goal and Salomón Rondón equalized after 88 minutes.

Klopp chose a heavily rotated team as three first choice defenders were given a few minutes on the substitutes bench. Along with Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dejan Lovren were given the afternoon off.

Joe Gomez started his first game following the ankle injury that he picked up while playing for England, while Ragnar Klavan took Lovren’s place.

But while those other inclusions had fairly decent games, Moreno suffered through a stinker and the match ratings reflect that. The Liverpool Echo awarded the Spaniard a 5/10, the Mirror opted for a slightly more generous 6/10 and respected fan site This Is Anfield gave a 5/10 as well.

Those calling for Moreno to be axed from the squad forget one thing: before his injury and Robertson’s inclusion in the side, the 25-year-old was having an excellent season and it appeared as if he’d turned over a new leaf.

Moreno was bound to be rusty and lacking in match fitness, which is probably why Klopp chose the left-back. A little patience should be given towards players like that.
